Tiyatro Eleştirmenler Birliği’nin yazdığı 2017 Dünya Tiyatro Günü Ulusal Bildirisi:
Alacakaranlığın eşiğinde duruyoruz. Oysa tiyatro, bizi o eşikten geçip aydınlık günlere ulaştırmak için gerekli en önemli araç.
Akademisyenlerin toplumsal barış için girişimlerinden dolayı üniversiteden uzaklaştırıldığı, bu nedenle ülkedeki en köklü tiyatro bölümlerinden birinin neredeyse kapanma noktasına geldiği, yine yüzlerce genci tiyatroya kazandırmış özel parasız eğitim veren bir kurumun kundaklandığı, özel tiyatroların ayakta kalmalarını sağlayacak destekten yoksun bırakıldığı, çevrenin korunması amacıyla haklı protestolara katılan sanatçıların ait oldukları sanat kurumlarından ihraç edildiği bir ortamda bırakınız Tiyatro Günü kutlamayı, tiyatro sanatının nasıl icra edilebildiği bile şaşırtıcı ama umut verici.
Biz tiyatro emekçileri, tiyatronun insanı değiştirici, dönüştürücü gücünden kuşku duymayız. Tiyatro olmazsa olmazımızdır.
Önündeki bütün engellere rağmen tiyatro sanatı, tam da üstlendiği misyonu yerine getirmek üzere toplumu uyarmaya, eleştirel düşünmeye sevketmeye, özgür düşünceyi ve temel insan haklarını savunmaya, hakikati kavramaya ve kavratmaya devam edecek.
Sözümüz bitmeyecek, perdemiz kapanmayacak, sahne ışığımız sönmeyecek, bu kubbedeki ‘hoş sadamız’ karanlığa teslim olmayacak.

We are at the threshold of twilight. However, the art of theatre is the only essential means to lead us from that threshold to radiant days.
At present, when academics who act for peace in our society are exported from their university, as a result of which one of the most prominent and the oldest theatre departments in Turkey is about to be shut down, when one of the private theatre schools which has graduated so many young members to the Turkish theatre scene has been sabotaged by an arsonist as the theatre was supporting secular parliamentarian present republic, when other private theatre groups are deprived of the necessary state financial support, when theatre artists who stand up in protests for and call people to support environmental rights are exported from their municipal or state theatre companies, it is indeed incredible to celebrate World Theatre Day and to perform the art of theatre, yet it is hopeful as well.
We, the workers of theatre, never doubt the power of the theatre to change and transform people. The theatre is our sine qua non.
Despite all obstacles it has to face, theatre will definitely continue to raise the society’s awareness, to guide audiences to critical thinking, to defend freedom of thought and basic human rights, to conceive truth and to make masses conceive it too.
Our word will never end, our curtains will never be shut down by force, our limelight will never be blown out, and our ‘fine voice’ under this ‘dome of many colored glass’ will never surrender to darkness.
